Deadlock Halloween 2026 Guide: Candy Cauldrons, Sugar Rush, and the New Mid-Boss Fight

The event, and why it ends soon
Valve's Deadlock Halloween 2026 event is live right now, but not for long: the festivities run through November 2, 2026, so this weekend is your last real window to grab the candy, fight the reworked Mid-Boss, and enjoy Manhattan dressed up for the holiday. The update pairs the seasonal fun with a serious gameplay patch, the first major balance pass since the City Never Sleeps heroes arrived, and it changes how the most important objective on the map works. Here is how to make the most of both halves before the pumpkins disappear.
How candy cauldrons work
As you walk the streets of Manhattan during a match, you will spot bubbling Halloween cauldrons sitting out in the open. Break one with a Heavy Melee and you pick up a piece of candy, which goes into your pocket as a consumable item. Eat it whenever you like and you get the Sugar Rush buff, a temporary energy boost that can turn a close fight or help you escape one.
The smart play is to hold your candy, not eat it on sight. Sugar Rush is most valuable right before a big objective fight or when you need to rotate fast across the map, and a cauldron break in the middle of a lane fight just paints a target on you. Grab candy while rotating between lanes, stash it, and spend it when the moment matters. There is also a hidden trick worth knowing: players have found that offering candy to the troll underneath the tree in the green lane, again with a Heavy Melee, trades it for random boon buffs. It is a gamble, but a fun one when you are already ahead.
The Mid-Boss fight is different now
The Mid-Boss pit has been rebuilt, and every Deadlock player needs to relearn the fight. The area is bigger now, with more cover and small pits to play around, which makes the approach less of a straight coin flip. The boss itself is tougher: health is up 20 percent, health gained per minute is up 20 percent, resistance reductions are only half as effective against it, and its roar now triggers at 25 percent health instead of 50 percent. Its bounty has been cut in half, from 3000 (plus 50 per minute) to 1500 (plus 25 per minute), so the reward for killing it is less about raw souls and more about the Rejuvenator.
That is where the biggest change lives. The Rejuvenator no longer drops as one crystal in the center of the pit. It now splits into three crystals placed around the pit in random positions, and each one breaks in a single Heavy Melee to grant your team one Rejuvenator, keeping the total at three per kill. Breaking any crystal now applies the full heal to your team, where previously only the first hit did, and the player who breaks a crystal pockets a bounty of 500 souls (plus 9 per minute). The crystals take 7.5 seconds to drop, up from 6, which gives the enemy team a real window to contest.
How to play the new Mid-Boss
First, stop treating the pit as a single choke point. The extra cover means you can split your approach, hold angles from the small pits, and punish teams that still walk in as a blob. Second, assign crystal duty before the fight starts. Three crystals in three spots means a team that plans who breaks what will secure all three Rejuvenators while a disorganized team argues over the first one. Third, respect the later roar. At 25 percent health, the roar comes when the fight is nearly won, which is exactly when teams get sloppy, so save one defensive cooldown for the finish.
Also note the smaller changes that add up: Healing Snacks now heal 14 percent of max health instead of 10 percent, and Steam Vents boost stamina regeneration by 150 percent. Both make sustained fights around the pit more forgiving, which favors teams that rotate in with a plan rather than teams that just show up and brawl.
Hero and item changes to know
The patch also nerfs several of the strongest heroes in the current meta, including Solomon, Graves, and the Rat King, which should loosen a meta that had started to feel solved. If you have been climbing with one of those picks, expect a slightly harder time, and if you have been losing to them, this is your window. On the item side, Radiant Regeneration and Healing Booster take nerfs, while Healbane can now stack, which shifts sustain builds in a meaningful way.
For players still learning the roster, our Deadlock Solomon build guide remains a good starting point for one of the game's most interesting heroes, even after the nerfs. Just adjust your expectations: Solomon still rewards clever play, but the patch trims the edges that made him feel oppressive.
Your weekend checklist
Before November 2, do these five things: break at least one cauldron per match and bank the candy for objective fights, try the green lane troll trade once, play one match focused entirely on the new Mid-Boss pit to learn its cover, test a non-meta hero while the top picks are weakened, and enjoy the cosmetic side of it all, with heroes in spooky masks and crates replaced by pumpkins. The full patch notes are on Valve's official Steam announcement, and coverage of the update confirms the troll trade detail. Halloween events in live games are easy to ignore, but this one changes the map's most important fight, and that is worth a weekend of your time.
