The PlayStation Pulse headset finally has a date, a price, and a launch strategy that could not be more obvious. Sony updated the official PlayStation Blog post this week to confirm the revamped wireless headset launches November 19, 2026 for $99.99, in White and Midnight Black. That is the exact same day Grand Theft Auto VI launches. Sony is not even pretending this is a coincidence.

Pre-orders open October 29, and the details are refreshingly specific. In the US, pre-orders start at 7am PT through direct.playstation.com. In the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, they start at 10am local time through the PlayStation store hardware section. Everywhere else PlayStation Direct operates, it is 10am local time, plus participating retailers.

PlayStation Pulse headset specs: what $100 buys

The headline feature is the driver tech. The Pulse uses custom planar magnetic drivers, the same class of driver found in the $150 Pulse Elite, and Sony says they are larger than the Elite's units for fuller, deeper bass without losing clarity. Each driver uses four magnets (the upcoming Pulse Edge doubles that to eight). Planar magnetic drivers move a thin flat diaphragm instead of a conventional cone, which is why they are prized for precise positional audio: footsteps and reloads in competitive shooters should be easier to place.

Connectivity is the other strong point. PlayStation Link, via an included USB-C adapter, delivers lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and lets you hop between PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. Simultaneous Bluetooth means your phone stays connected for calls mid-session. The integrated mic uses AI-enhanced noise rejection, the earcups rotate to lay flat for travel, and there is a built-in volume control.

What you give up at $99.99

The $50 saving over the Pulse Elite comes with real compromises, and Sony is not hiding them. There is no active noise cancellation, no carrying case, no 3.5mm audio jack, and no dedicated game/chat balance control on PS5. The microphone is fixed, where the Elite has a detachable boom mic plus a concealed backup. If any of those are deal-breakers, the Pulse Edge arrives in early 2027 with ANC, a detachable boom mic, and the eight-magnet drivers, though Sony has not priced it yet.

The GTA VI play

Launching a $100 headset on GTA VI day is just smart business. Sony has a promotional deal with Rockstar's game, and the official site already carries PlayStation 5 branding. Millions of people will be setting up the biggest game of the decade on November 19, and a mid-range headset is the easiest possible add-on purchase. Should you buy it?

Planar magnetic drivers at $99.99 is genuinely good value on paper: this is driver tech that usually lives in the $150-plus tier. If you are still on TV speakers or a basic stereo headset, the Pulse is an easy upgrade, and the PS Link switching is a real quality-of-life win for anyone who bounces between console and PC. If you already own the Pulse Elite, there is no reason to sidegrade.

One more thing to watch: the November 19 launch covers 24 regions, and Sony says dates for additional countries will be announced later. If you are outside the launch list, pre-ordering from a listed region's retailer is an option, but check warranty coverage first, since the headset ships with a region-specific USB-C PlayStation Link adapter you will want covered.

One caveat for bargain hunters: compare it against the wider market before pre-ordering. But if you want first-party PlayStation audio tuned for Tempest 3D on day one of GTA VI, Sony just made your decision easy.
