Riders Republic Hits Nintendo Switch 2 on December 9, With Free Nomad Offline Mode

Ubisoft is finally taking Riders Republic portable. The Riders Republic Switch 2 port launches December 9, 2026, giving Nintendo's hybrid console the full open-world extreme sports playground more than five years after the game first dropped. And in a move that matters for everyone, not just Switch 2 owners, the same date brings Nomad Mode: a genuine offline mode for Riders Republic on every platform.
The news broke during the game's 5th Anniversary Showcase this week, where Ubisoft Annecy laid out a packed celebration schedule. Riders Republic has quietly become one of the longest-running live service sports games around, with more than 17 million players since its October 2021 launch, and Ubisoft is clearly not done with it.
Riders Republic Switch 2: what you get on December 9
The Switch 2 version is the first time Riders Republic has appeared on a Nintendo system at all. Ubisoft has not confirmed pricing, resolution targets, or frame rate yet, and it has not said how the game behaves in handheld versus docked mode. What we do know is that it lands worldwide on December 9, 2026, and that the announcement positions it as a native port, not a cloud version, which is the detail that actually matters for anyone planning to play on a train.
It is worth remembering that this is a five-year-old game arriving with five years of seasonal content, crossovers, and balance history baked in. That is a strange but appealing proposition: a live service game showing up on Switch 2 with its entire back catalog of toys intact. If you want a taste before December, the official Riders Republic site has the showcase archive and details on the anniversary events.
Nomad Mode finally kills the always-online problem
Nomad Mode is the bigger story here. Starting December 9, every platform gets an offline mode that lets you explore the open world, progress through careers, complete activities, find landmarks and balloons, and customize your rider without an internet connection. All offline progress syncs back into your online save when you reconnect, so nothing is lost.
This is Ubisoft directly answering the post-The Crew anxiety. When The Crew's servers shut down and the game became entirely unplayable, it kicked off a movement demanding games stay playable offline, and Ubisoft clearly heard it. Riders Republic escaping that fate is a genuinely good sign, even if the offline mode has limits: the shop, season progression, sponsors, multiplayer modes, and user-created events still need a connection.
The timing is not accidental. Ubisoft says Nomad was driven by the Switch 2 port and the game's Steam Deck certification, two platforms where playing on the go without a connection is the whole point. It also helps during server maintenance and network outages on every other platform.
The 5th anniversary celebration, in order
The showcase laid out a roughly seven-week celebration. Here is the schedule that matters:
- Free weekend: October 22-26 on all platforms, full game access for new and returning players. Progress carries over if you buy.
- Developer-made UGE: October 21 to November 4, with 5th Anniversary Skis and BMX as rewards.
- Henri PFR in-game concert: starts October 22, runs two weeks, airs twice daily on the big screen in the Ridge.
- Ridge Full Send: November 25 to December 9, showing off every toy released in the past year.
- Switch 2 launch and Nomad Mode: December 9.
There is also a stack of Ubisoft crossover content: an Assassin's Creed outfit inspired by Edward Kenway, a Rayman-themed BMX and Globox outfit, a Just Dance panda coach outfit, and themed snowboards from The Crew Motorfest, For Honor, Skull and Bones, and Brawlhalla.
Should you care?
If you bounced off Riders Republic at launch, the Switch 2 version is the same game in a new box, so temper expectations. But the Nomad Mode is the kind of player-friendly move the industry should be making more often, and the free weekend running right now is the cheapest possible way to find out if the mass-start chaos is your thing. The sales help too: up to 90% off on the Ubisoft Store through October 26, and up to 80% off on PlayStation and Xbox through November 4.
For Switch 2 owners specifically, this is another solid third-party pickup in a year that keeps delivering them. Ubisoft has backed the console hard since launch, and a portable version of a 50-player mass race is an easy sell.
