T1 VALORANT Roster Overhaul: Meteor, Munchkin and DH Out as 2027 Rebuild Begins

T1 VALORANT roster overhaul: five farewells in one day
The T1 VALORANT roster overhaul is official, and it is a clean break. On November 2, 2026, T1 announced the departures of players Kim 'Meteor' Tae-oh, Byeon 'Munchkin' Sang-beom, and Kang 'DH' Dong-ho, along with head coach Kim 'KDG' Dong-gun and coach Lee 'CheongGak' Il-ho. The organization posted five farewells in five minutes, one for each departure, and the message was unmistakable: the 2026 core is done.
Only three players remain from the 2026 team: Kim 'stax' Gu-taek, Yu 'BuZz' Byeong-cheol, and Ham 'iZu' Woo-ju. Everything else, from the coaching staff to the star duelist, is being rebuilt from scratch ahead of the 2027 VCT season.
Who left, and what they meant to T1
Meteor is the headline departure. The 26-year-old leaves as a free agent after his contract expired, and he leaves with one of the best trophy records in the Pacific region. He won Masters Shanghai in 2024 with Gen.G, the first international trophy for a VCT Pacific team, then joined T1 and won again at the first attempt: Masters Bangkok, where T1 came from 1-2 down to beat G2 Esports 3-2 in the grand final, with Meteor named MVP.
Munchkin's exit closes a longer story. He played for T1 from 2022 to 2023, spent two years at Gen.G alongside Meteor, and returned for 2026 as in-game leader. DH's path was messier: promoted from the academy in May 2025, sent back in November, then brought back to the main roster in mid-2026. Both departures remove experience and leadership, not just firepower.
The coaching exits matter just as much. CheongGak had been on the bench since March 2023, a steady fixture through more than three years of roster churn. KDG joined in October 2025 and steered the team through a season that peaked early and never quite recovered. T1's statement thanked all five, but the scale of the clearout says more than the thank-yous do.
The season that made this inevitable
T1 never got back to the level of that Bangkok final. In 2025 they finished seventh to eighth in Pacific Stage 1 and missed Masters Toronto, then reached Champions Paris on points and went out in the group stage. In 2026 they finished second at Pacific Kickoff again, went out in the Swiss stage of Masters Santiago, and took fourth in Stage 1, which left them short of Masters London.
The bright spot was Champions Shanghai, where T1 reached their first-ever Champions Playoffs and finished fifth to sixth. That run showed the ceiling of this roster. The rest of the year showed its floor. When a team with a Masters trophy and an MVP-caliber duelist keeps sliding, organizations usually change a piece or two. T1 changed nearly everything.
The academy wipe a week earlier pointed the same way. On October 26, T1 parted ways with the academy coach and all five academy players, choosing a blank slate across all tiers of the program rather than promoting from within. The main roster announcement on November 2 simply finished the job.
What happens next in the VCT 2027 market
Meteor is the biggest free agent on the market, and he has already signaled his intentions. On October 22 he announced he was looking for a team in Korea, Japan, or China, with T1's permission to explore options. Expect a bidding war among Pacific teams that need a proven duelist, and expect his decision to set off a chain of moves across the region.
T1's rebuild is part of a wider VCT 2027 churn. MIBR benched its entire roster, including aspas and zekken, as covered in our MIBR VALORANT roster report, and FURIA withdrew from mixed VCT competition entirely. Paper Rex also parted ways with captain d4v41 and Jinggg after Champions 2026. Free agency season is doing what it always does: rewarding the patient and punishing the sentimental.
For T1, the question is whether stax, BuZz, and iZu are a foundation or just what is left. Stax is the natural in-game leader going forward, and BuZz brings continuity on the server. But a three-player core needs two strong signings and a coaching staff with a clear identity, not just big names. T1's next announcements will tell us whether this is a rebuild with a plan or a reset with a prayer.
The wider esports calendar does not slow down for roster news. Our Worlds 2026 quarterfinal preview covers the League of Legends knockouts starting November 4, and our KRU Blaze Game Changers report covers the other side of the VALORANT scene. For the full T1 announcement details, see the reports from THESPIKE.GG and Pley.gg. The rebuild starts now, and the Pacific region will be watching every signing.
