Genshin Impact 7.2: Hour of Ruin Launches November 4

Genshin Impact 7.2 arrives on November 4, 2026. HoYoverse confirmed the date in its official Version 7.2 trailer and special program, and the update is titled Hour of Ruin. It is the biggest story swing the game has attempted in years: the Nails of Retribution are waking up across Teyvat, and every nation is being dragged into the same crisis at the same time.

If you have been waiting for Snezhnaya to stop being a tease and start being the center of the story, this is that patch. The update opens a new region in eastern Snezhnaya, adds two playable Electro characters, and pushes the Archon Quest into a summit of all seven nations called by the Tsaritsa herself.

Genshin Impact 7.2 Story: Seven Nations Against the Holy Soil

The setup is simple and grim. The Nails of Retribution are growing more violent, pillars of light are appearing across Teyvat, and the Holy Soil phenomenon is throwing every nation into crisis. The Tsaritsa responds by summoning representatives from all seven nations to Snezhnaya to coordinate a response, and players fight alongside the Archons, Neuvillette, and allies from across Teyvat to contain it.

That framing matters for longtime players. Genshin has spent years building each nation as its own political and cultural world, with its own grudges and alliances. Putting all seven at one table, under one threat, is the closest the game has come to a genuine endgame-style convergence. HoYoverse is clearly positioning Hour of Ruin as a turning point rather than another regional chapter, and the trailer leans hard into that scale.

The New Region: Novokitezhgrad, Wingspan Peak, and Old Kitezhgrad

Exploration heads east. Players board a railway to Novokitezhgrad, Snezhnaya's main producer of Kresnik Kristall, a city built entirely underground and encased in the crystal itself. It is a sharp contrast to the snowfields above, and HoYoverse is selling it as one of the most visually distinct cities in the game.

Further east lies Wingspan Peak, a formation shaped like a gigantic wing, and Old Kitezhgrad, Snezhnaya's first city, founded by the Belyi Tsar. The region is shaped by the Holy Soil phenomenon unleashed by Ronova, which has contaminated Kresnik Kristall deposits. Players will use new Prime Ice Constructs and two elemental shotguns to clear those hazards while digging into more of Snezhnaya's history. A colossal creature from the ocean depths is also waiting in Novokitezhgrad for players who want a serious fight.

For explorers, the practical notes are worth flagging: new Meeting Point quests follow Danica on a clandestine cleanup assignment for the Tsaritsa in Novokitezhgrad, and Mitya as he investigates the soil near Teplo Oasis. Their paths cross in ways HoYoverse is keeping quiet about, which usually means at least one questline worth doing blind.

Genshin Impact 7.2 Characters: Mitya and Valeriy

Two new characters join the roster, and both are built around Stellar-Conduct reactions:

  • Mitya (5-star, Electro Catalyst): Converts the team's Superconduct reactions into Stellar-Conduct reactions and can switch between off-field and on-field roles. In parts of Snezhnaya, his detection device reveals hidden paths and a reward that changes his appearance.
  • Valeriy (4-star, Electro Sword): Provides shields and boosts Electro damage, with a kit aimed squarely at Stellar-Conduct teams.

Phase one of the banners runs Mitya and Valeriy alongside a Furina rerun. Phase two brings back Zibai and Linnea, plus a new Chronicled Wish featuring Natlan characters including Varesa, Chasca, Xilonen, Mualani, and Kinich. If you are saving, phase one is the obvious pull window for anyone invested in Electro teams, while phase two is a rerun trap for completionists.

Events, Rewards, and the October 26 Code Deadline

The event calendar is packed. The limited event The Grand Defense: Defy the Unjust Judgment runs through December 16, Trial of the Lustrous runs November 16 through November 26, and Stygian Onslaught runs November 11 through December 15. Finishing the Archon Quest within the set period grants 560 Primogems and Mitya's ascension materials, and the new Secret Tsarist Assignments add a Snezhnaya-themed Wind Glider. The main limited-time event also offers Primogems and a free 4-star character of your choice, plus a filming event in Snezhnaya, a mining challenge in Natlan, and a free 4-star cosmetic set in Miliastra Wonderland.

One deadline comes before launch: the special program redemption codes expire at 00:00 (UTC-4) on October 26. The codes are HourofRuin, ExpertMitya, and PhotoTime, worth 300 Primogems combined plus ore, Hero's Wit, and Mora. Redeem them now, because in-game mail expires after 30 days if you leave it sitting.

For players coming back after a break, the pitch is straightforward: this is the rare Genshin patch where the story, the region, and the meta all move at once. If you only return for one update a year, Hour of Ruin is an easy pick. For more on the current RPG landscape, see our Final Fantasy Resonance beginner guide and our AION 2 beginner guide.
