Worlds 2026 Round 4: the stakes

Worlds 2026 Round 4 is where the Swiss stage stops being polite. Six best-of-three series run from October 28 to 30 at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, and every one of them ends somebody's storyline. Three series send their winners to the quarterfinals. Three series send their losers home. After Round 3, Gen.G and Dplus KIA are already through at 3-0, Anyone's Legend and Team Secret Whales are already out at 0-3, and the twelve teams in between now play for everything. Here is how each series breaks down, and why the draw produced the most dramatic possible week.

Worlds 2026 Round 4: the qualification series

The headline is Movistar KOI vs T1 on Wednesday, October 28. T1 are the tournament's most decorated team and the draw nobody wanted, but KOI earned their 2-1 record honestly and have already shown they can trade with the LCK's best. The winner goes to the quarterfinals at 3-1; the loser drops to Round 5 on Saturday with one last chance. For T1, this is a familiar position: they have made a habit of surviving exactly these kinds of series. For KOI, it is the biggest match in the organization's history.

Later on Wednesday, LYON face Invictus Gaming in a series with real stylistic contrast. LYON's run through the Swiss stage has been built on aggressive early games and confidence, while IG have been the tournament's most volatile team, capable of beating anyone and losing to anyone on the same day. The winner joins Gen.G and DK in the knockout stage. The loser gets one more life in Round 5, but the road gets much harder from there.

Thursday's qualification series is an all-LPL civil war: Bilibili Gaming vs Top Esports. Both teams sit at 2-1 after Round 3, and both know each other inside out from years of domestic play. LPL fans have already watched their top seed, Anyone's Legend, crash out winless, so this series carries extra weight: the winner keeps Chinese hopes alive in the top half of the bracket, and the loser faces a do-or-die Saturday.

Worlds 2026 Round 4: the survival series

The elimination half of the draw is just as loaded. On Thursday, CTBC Flying Oyster face Karmine Corp in a series where the loser goes home. CFO have been one of the tournament's surprise packages, while Karmine Corp's massive fanbase has watched their team stumble to 1-2 after a strong start. Both teams have shown they can win a game against anyone; neither has shown they can win two in a row when it matters.

Friday brings the two series every neutral fan will be watching. Team Liquid vs LOS is a rematch of the survival stories from Round 3: Team Liquid swept the LPL champions to stay alive, and LOS swept Team Secret Whales to do the same. One of those runs ends on Friday. Then G2 Esports face Hanwha Life Esports in a series that feels wrong this early: the LEC champions against the LCK second seed, with the loser eliminated before the quarterfinals. G2's loss to Top Esports in Round 3 put them here, and HLE's loss to Invictus Gaming did the same. Whoever loses on Friday will spend the offseason answering questions about a tournament that slipped away.

The schedule and what to watch

All six series are best-of-three, and the schedule runs Wednesday through Friday. KOI vs T1 and LYON vs IG headline Wednesday, CFO vs Karmine Corp and BLG vs TES play Thursday, and Team Liquid vs LOS plus G2 vs HLE close the round on Friday. Round 5 follows on Saturday, October 31, and the quarterfinals begin November 3 at the same venue.

The big storyline to track is Fearless Draft. Champions picked in one game of a series are locked out for the rest of it, which means best-of-three series reward deep champion pools and punish one-trick teams. That rule has already shaped upsets in this tournament, and in elimination series it tends to decide games three. Watch which teams have a plan for game three, not just game one.
