Genshin Impact 7.2 prep guide: start here

This Genshin Impact 7.2 prep guide is your checklist for the week before Hour of Ruin launches on November 4, 2026. Version 7.2 is a big one: a new Snezhnaya region, a new Archon Quest that gathers representatives from all seven nations, two new Electro characters, and a banner schedule that forces a genuinely hard choice. Six days is enough time to get your account in order, but only if you start now. Here is what to do first, what to farm, and what to skip.

If you missed the announcement, our Genshin Impact 7.2 Hour of Ruin launch coverage has the full banner and region breakdown. Coverage of the special program is also available from Insider Gaming and GameTrader.

The pull plan: Mitya, Furina, or save

Phase 1 is the decision that defines your whole version. Mitya, the new 5-star Electro Catalyst, headlines the banner alongside a rerun for Furina, the Hydro Archon, with the new 4-star Valeriy at boosted rates. Mitya's kit revolves around Stellar-Conduct, a new mechanic that converts team triggered Superconduct reactions into bonus Stellar-Conduct hits, and his skill deploys a detection device on the field. He can switch between off-field support and on-field charged attacks, which makes him flexible, but his real value depends on how strong Stellar-Conduct teams turn out to be in practice.

Furina complicates everything. She remains one of the most versatile supports in the game, enabling entire team archetypes, and if you do not have her, she is arguably the safer pull. Valeriy, a 4-star Electro Claymore support who shields allies and boosts Electro damage, pairs directly with Mitya's Stellar-Conduct teams, so pulling on phase 1 gives you a shot at both pieces of the new archetype at once. The weapon banner carries Mitya's new 5-star Catalyst, Starsealed Edict.

Phase 2 brings reruns for Zibai and Linnea, plus a Natlan Chronicled Wish stocked with Varesa, Chasca, Xilonen, Mualani, and Kinich. If neither phase 1 headliner excites you, phase 2 is your saving window. Decide now, not on banner day: set a hard primogem budget, count your pity, and remember that the Archon Quest itself pays out 560 primogems plus Mitya's ascension materials if you finish it within the version window.

Pre-farm checklist for the new region

Version 7.2 opens two new Snezhnaya areas: Novokitezhgrad, an underground mining city choked with Blightkristall, and Old Kitezhgrad at Wingspan Peak, Snezhnaya's founding city now consumed by the Shadow Realm. Exploration there uses two new mechanics: elemental shotguns (Pyro restores health, Geo builds barriers) and Prime Ice Constructs for clearing contaminated crystal fields. The new Wavebinder boss lives in the new region and drops Mitya's character development materials, so if you plan to pull him, expect your first farming runs to go there.

What you can do this week:

  • Clear your daily commissions and resin backlog so you start November 4 with a full tank.
  • Level your Electro characters and Superconduct friendly supports, since Stellar-Conduct teams reward reaction heavy compositions.
  • Stock up on generic ascension staples (character EXP books, mora, talent books you already own) rather than guessing at new material names.
  • Hold off on spending fragile resin until the new boss and domains are live, so your first runs count.

Do not burn resources on speculation. New material names and domain rotations always leak early, but only the official version notes on launch day are worth farming against. Your job this week is to arrive with currency, resin, and leveled supports, not a backpack full of guesses.

Get your account ready for Snezhnaya

Story progress matters more than gear for this update. The Hour of Ruin Archon Quest throws the Tsaritsa, the Archons, Neuvillette, and allies from across Teyvat into one crisis, as the Nails of Retribution grow violent and the Holy Soil phenomenon spreads across every nation. If you are behind on Archon Quests, use this week to catch up, because the new quest assumes you know who these characters are and why this meeting matters.

Also clear your event backlog. Version 7.2 adds a limited time co-op crisis event with primogems and exclusive rewards, a filming event in Snezhnaya, a mining challenge in Natlan, and a free 4-star character of your choice from the main limited time event, plus a Snezhnaya themed Wind Glider from the Secret Tsarist Assignments. Events overlap fast in a new version, so going in with a clean quest log means you spend launch week playing new content instead of clearing old chores.

Mobile players should check storage now. Monster Hunter Outlanders reminded everyone this month that big mobile launches eat storage fast, and a new region plus a new Archon Quest is a chunky download. Free up space before November 4 so you are not staring at a storage warning while your friends are already in Novokitezhgrad.

Day one checklist for November 4

When the servers come up, work in this order. First, run the new Archon Quest: it pays 560 primogems and Mitya's ascension materials, and it unlocks the story context for everything else. Second, unlock the new region waypoints and try the Wavebinder boss once, even if you are not pulling Mitya, so you know the fight. Third, grab the free rewards: the Snezhnaya Wind Glider from the Secret Tsarist Assignments and the free 4-star character from the main event. Fourth, make your banner decision with a cool head, after you have seen Mitya's trial and Valeriy's kit in action.

The worst way to start a version is to pull on hype, run dry before phase 2, and then realize the rerun you actually wanted was three weeks away. Hour of Ruin rewards patience: the story pays you, the events pay you, and the new region is not going anywhere. Prep this week, pull with a plan, and Snezhnaya will be a lot more fun on day one.
