Nintendo Indie World October 2026: the headlines

The Nintendo Indie World October 2026 showcase aired on October 28 and crammed 23 games into roughly 15 minutes, and it was one of the strongest Indie World broadcasts in years. The headline news was a firm release date for Witchbrook, Chucklefish's long awaited witch life sim, plus Switch 2 ports for two of the biggest indie hits of recent years: Slime Rancher 2 and R.E.P.O. Add in a Sword of the Sea launch landing tomorrow and a November calendar stacked with cozy and chaotic multiplayer games, and Switch owners have a lot to sort through. You can watch the full presentation on Nintendo's official channel.

Witchbrook finally has a date

Witchbrook opened the show, and it delivered the news fans have waited years for. Chucklefish's magical life sim launches on January 28, 2027 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and the studio confirmed the same date for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, with day one availability on Xbox Game Pass. You play the newest witch at Witchbrook College in the seaside town of Mossport, attending classes, brewing potions, building relationships, and casting spells, with online multiplayer for up to four players.

The date matters because Witchbrook has been delayed more than once since its original reveal as Spellbound, and it had become a running joke in the cozy game community. A firm date, plus a same day launch across every major platform, turns it from a wishlist meme into a real 2027 event. If you have been waiting since the first trailer, January 28 is now circled on the calendar.

Sword of the Sea lands tomorrow, and the Switch 2 port parade continues

The shortest wait in the showcase belongs to Sword of the Sea. Giant Squid's atmospheric surfing adventure, from the studio behind ABZU and the artist behind Journey, surfs onto Switch 2 on October 29, the day after the broadcast. It earned a Must-Play badge during the presentation, and it is the kind of game that fits handheld play perfectly: short, beautiful, and built around flow rather than combat.

Slime Rancher 2 is the other big port. Monomi Park's slime wrangling sequel comes to Switch 2 in January 2027, with a Switch 2 exclusive in-game item, the Glo Glo Squiggle, for players on Nintendo's console. Beatrix LeBeau returns to Rainbow Island, and the sequel's bigger, stranger slimes should translate well to a handheld that begs for a chill game in the evening. Switch 2 keeps stacking ports like this: Minecraft went native on Switch 2 with a free upgrade earlier this month, and Riders Republic arrives December 9 with a free offline mode.

Co-op chaos leads the 2027 slate

If the cozy crowd got Witchbrook, the chaos crowd got R.E.P.O. Semiwork's online co-op horror game, where up to six players loot valuables from haunted houses as wobbly little robots, became a viral PC hit earlier this year, and it is now confirmed for Switch 2 in 2027. Voice chat and physics driven slapstick are the whole game, so the Switch 2 version lives or dies on how well its online holds up. Still, it is a huge get for Nintendo's indie lineup.

The multiplayer theme ran through the rest of the show. Super Battle Golf lets eight players take shots at the same time and lands on Switch 2 on March 25, 2027. Dumpster Gang, a sandbox about mischievous raccoons for up to four players, follows in March 2027. Spirit Crossing, the multiplayer home building game above the clouds from the makers of Cozy Grove, is a console exclusive to Nintendo's systems and launches November 16, barely three weeks after the showcase. And It Takes Two's Switch 2 upgrade already proved this year that Nintendo's audience will show up for co-op.

The near-term calendar: November is stacked

Beyond the 2027 headliners, November looks busy. TANUKI: Pon's Summer, the open world BMX adventure about a part time mail delivery tanuki, arrives November 10 on Switch 2 and other platforms for $19.99, with pre-orders open now. Raccoin: Chaos Max Edition hits Switch 2 the same day, November 10, with eight extra characters and a demo that went live during the showcase. Spirit Crossing follows on November 16.

Demos were a quiet theme of the broadcast. Petal Runner, a Game Boy styled delivery game, has a free demo on the eShop now ahead of its March 8, 2027 launch, and Haunted Paws, a co-op adventure, has a demo out today ahead of its May 2027 release. Bao Bao's Cozy Cleaning Services shadow dropped on Switch during the show itself. If you like trying indies before you buy, the eShop has fresh demos waiting right now.

What this showcase says about Switch 2

The bigger story is what this lineup says about Switch 2 as an indie machine. Nintendo's second Indie World of the year leaned hard on ports of proven PC hits, day one demos, and firm dates rather than vague windows. The Western broadcast ran 15 minutes while Japan got a longer 25 minute cut, a reminder that some games in the Japanese show may not have Western dates yet. Even so, 23 games in 15 minutes with almost no filler is a strong hit rate.

The throughline is variety. Witchbrook for the cozy crowd, R.E.P.O. for the chaos crowd, Sword of the Sea for the art house crowd, and a stack of multiplayer games for friend groups. Switch 2's first year is shaping up as a genuinely good time to be an indie fan, and the October showcase just made the 2027 backlog a lot longer.
